I just hit the modern era at about 525 turns in a King-level, epic paced, huge Pangaea map with the full slate of civs and a few extra city states for flavour. The new mechanics in BNW are really starting to come alive for me.

I can't say for certain if that happened pre or post Industrial. that memory is hazy at best, as at some point the city flipped religions and I lost the ability. Thinking more on my own experience I could have sworn that I was able to buy Industrial/post-Industrial units via Faith accumulation from a far-continent city under the influence of a religion I did not found. I can turn it around, but honestly the best way for me to turn it around at this point in my game is to abandon my original strategy and go conquering. I would have founded/annexed a city close enough to pick up the reformation religion, then started porting missionaries over once I had my own religious buildings built out. The bolded is flat out not true and you know it. Tossing aside the completely false belief that you had to have that ability to win culture, or that you then needed to go to war to win culture. Basically, I had made a full and complete bet on getting that reformation belief, and it failed.

At that point, I had already lost the wonder race on several key buildings that were very important for wining a normal culture victory. I could still win a culture victory, but honestly my culture victory would be a conquest victory in which I let the enemies keep their capitals while I stole all their other cities to aquire their great works, artifacts, and destroy their ability to generate culture. I couldn't work back up to it, I can't steal it, or aquire it through diplomacy, it is just gone. Once I lost the ability to get tourism from my faith buildings, that ability was completely gone. Beliefs are a one player only type thing. Resources are distributed around the map, if England has aluminum, I can also have some aluminum, and again I can also steal it. None of the wonders produce a game changing mechanic that gives you additional capabilities, and even if you lose a wonder race, you can march over with an army and take the wonder.
